Children's services performing well

Children’s services in Leicestershire are performing well, Ofsted inspectors revealed today.

Ofsted has reported on the children’s services run by Leicestershire County Council, which cover early years work, education and children’s social care.

The report says that, overall, Leicestershire’s services perform well. It says:

• The proportion of good or outstanding secondary schools, sixth forms and special schools is well above the national average, while much of the nursery and primary school provision is satisfactory

• There is strong performance in education at all key stages

• Child protection processes are strong

• Childminders and childcare services are satisfactory

• Provision for vulnerable pupils in special schools is good

• Two out of three children’s homes are good

• There is good work to reduce reoffending by young people

Ivan Ould, Cabinet member for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “The report reflects the good performance of our services and acknowledges many of our strengths.

“It is worth stating that 71% of our schools are classed as outstanding or good and that only two are judged to be inadequate. That is an impressive record.”
