Safety boost for Sileby bridge

A Sileby bridge has received a boost in a bid to reduce accidents at the site.

The improvements at Essex Bridge on Mountsorrel Lane include a new anti-skid surface, better road markings and rumble strips.

The hazard signs advising of the narrow bridge have also been moved forward on both sides of the road, to give more warning to motorists approaching the bridge.

The County Council has carried out the £21,000 work following an investigation which looked at the accident record over a three year period and showed a number of collisions on the bridge and its approaches.

Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “It is one of our main objectives to provide a safer road environment in order to try and reduce the number of accidents that occur on our roads.

“The improvements are designed to encourage vehicles to slow down and approach the bridge with caution.”

The work was completed on 13 December.
