Sail to the sales with park and ride

Bargain-seekers going to the sales in Leicester can sail through the traffic by hopping on board a park and ride service.

At the four park and rides in the county - Meynells Gorse, County Hall, Oadby Racecourse and the brand new service at Enderby - parking is free and tickets are purchased when boarding the bus.

A group of up to five people travelling together pay just £3.50 return after 9.30am from Monday to Friday and all day at the weekend.

On 30 December there is an extended hours service operating from Meynell’s Gorse, where buses run at least every 15 minutes. Buses from Enderby run every 10 minutes from 7am to 7pm (excluding Sundays) and the services at County Hall and Oadby Racecourse run on Saturdays only.

Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “This can be a hectic time of year and the park and ride services offer a great way to get to the city shops, without having a stressful search for a parking space.

“By using the park and ride, people will also be doing their bit to reduce their carbon footprint, cutting down on the number of cars travelling into the city in the rush to the sales."

Patrick Kitterick, City Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “Leicester is a great place to bag a bargain in the sales. The park and ride services are a simple and efficient way for people to travel into the city and to enjoy what we have to offer while helping cut congestion.”

Services are not operating on New Year's Day but resume as normal on 2nd January.

Full details on operating times and prices are available on: www.leics.gov.uk/park_and_ride or by calling 0116 305 8777.
