12 talented athletes from the County and City will be recognised for their sporting potential when they receive Go Gold sports grants from Roger Wilson, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council at a special reception. The event is taking place at County Hall on Wednesday 13th January at 7.30pm
The Chairman’s Reception for Sport will acknowledge young athletes who are representing their sport at National and International level and who have been accepted by their National Governing body onto World Class programmes.
Recipients include Sophie Smith and Tsubasa Nakagawa – swimming, Mike Wood and Thomas Wright – sailing, Lucy Garner and Daniel McLay – cycling, Jonathan Walton – rowing, Lloyd Gumbs – athletics, Fiona McGorum – race walking, Hannah Polak – pistol shooting, Matthew Holliday – canoe slalom, and Emily Scarratt – rugby.
The Go Gold Talented Athlete Fund is run through the Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport Competition Board and aims to support talented young athletes in full time education. Ernie White, Chair of Leicester-Shire and Rutland Competition Board, added:
