Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was robbed of her bag in Loughborough.

The incident happened at about 3.55pm on Friday January 8, as the 75-year-old victim walked along True Lover’s Walk, an alleyway linking Frederick Street and William Street.

Two men also walked along the alley behind the victim. Just after passing her they turned around and ran back towards her, pulling her bag out of her hand. 

Both men carried on running along the alley towards Frederick Street.

The black leather handbag stolen in the robbery contained a black leather purse, some cash and a number of papers and cards.

Both men are thought to be aged between 18 and 19-years-old.

One of the men is described as being about 5ft tall, of slim build and had a dark complexion. He was wearing dark clothing and had the hood of his top pulled up over his head.

The second man is described as being about 5’5” tall, of slim build and was also wearing dark clothing.

PC Sanjeet Bilan, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim was very upset after the incident and broke down in tears in the street. The whole robbery really shook her up and we hope that anyone with information will call us as soon as possible.

“Just before the victim walked down True Lover’s Walk she spotted the two suspects standing on the corner of Frederick Street and Browns Lane. We would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery to contact us if they can remember seeing two men matching the description.

“You may not have seen the incident but you could have seen the two men before or after the robbery. If so, the information you have could help us, so please get in touch.

“We would also like anyone who has found the bag, or knows of its current whereabouts to call us.”
