This year sees the introduction of two new Play Rangers who are both relishing the challenge of encouraging Charnwood children to make the most of the activities on offer.

As part of the new Play Rangers programme, Charnwood Borough Council is putting on new and exciting sessions for children to experience play. These will be led by new rangers Linda Savage and Sue Monk.

Mini Movers sessions are running at a variety of venues across the borough. Mini Movers is about young children exploring the equipment available and playing games based around movement and motor skills.

The sessions are taking place on:

Mondays 10am -11am Quorn Village Hall,

Tuesday 10am – 11am Thrussington Village Hall,

Wednesdays 10am – 11am Syston Library,

Thursdays 10am – 11am Thurmaston Elizabeth Park

Community Centre

Fridays 10am – 11.30am Hathern Village Hall,

Other activities on offer include free dance sessions. Young people can dance to their favourite music and have a say in how the dances are choreographed in the one-hour classes.

These kick off from 4pm on Wednesdays at Gorse Covert Community Centre, Loughborough, for children aged 11-16, and are run by a qualified dance instructor.

Alongside the dancing, the council is running a drama group at St Peters Community Centre, Loughborough, for children aged seven- 11, on Mondays from 4pm.

It is a chance for participants to write and perform in their own drama production. Once again sessions are completely free (although booking is required - please contact Leisure Services on 01509 634673).

Puppet Play, a new activity, is held on Tuesdays at Rearsby Village Hall for children aged five -11.

Participants have the opportunity to design, make and play with their own puppets. They will also be able to play with a range of different puppets and perform using a puppet theatre. Puppet sessions are completely free and run for an hour.

Cllr Peter Lewis, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “I am pleased to welcome our new Play Rangers who will be heading up this exciting new programme.

“With a good variety of activities on offer there is no excuse for young people to be bored!”

The Charnwood Play Ranger Tour is supported by the Big Lottery Fund and delivers free open access play activities for youngsters up to the age of 16 and their families throughout the borough.
