Tenants and housing applicants will have a greater say over where they want to live and what housing options are available to them following a successful funding bid.
Leicestershire and Rutland will receive £177,000 of government funding to develop a county-wide Choice Based Lettings Scheme that is capable of responding to the changing needs of the community.
The sub-regional scheme was one of 9 schemes to benefit from a slice of £562,000 made available from the Government’s fifth round of funding for Choice Based Lettings Schemes.
The scheme, will offer tenants and applicants greater mobility, choice and flexibility when looking at their housing options enabling them to move across different local authority areas, for example if they are looking to move for a job opportunity.
Cllr Preston, Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, stated that “I am delighted to announce that the bid for funding the county wide Choice Based Lettings scheme, which was led by Charnwood has been successful”
“The total allocation made by CLG in Round 5 was £562,000, and Charnwood received the largest allocation of £177,000”
“This scheme is a partnership between all 7 Leicestershire districts and Rutland County Council and will result in significant changes to the way council housing is allocated across the County”
