Boost for recycling in Barwell

A Barwell recycling facility is set to receive a facelift next week.

Residents will benefit from a new road surface which is being put in at the village's household waste and recycling site.

The facility, which celebrates its 21st birthday this year, has a recycling rate of 78% - one of the highest in the county - and will have to close for one day on Monday, 8th February whilst the work takes place.

Tony Kershaw, County Council Cabinet Member for Waste Management, said: "Our recycling and household waste sites are very popular and allow people to keep recycling more and more.

“We regret having to close the site – even for such a brief period. However, this improvement will ensure continued good service for all local residents."

There are 14 recycling and household waste sites across Leicestershire where residents are able to recycle a range of materials, including electrical items, Tetra Paks and yoghurt pots.

For more information visit www.leics.gov.uk/waste or call 0116 305 0001.

Barwell Recycling and Household Waste Site is on Stapleton Lane, Barwell, LE9 8HE.

Notes:

People can recycle a variety of household items at the County Council's 14 sites including electrical goods, scrap metal, clothes and garden waste, as well as general rubbish.

Every year, they handle more than 100,000 tonnes of materials and currently more than 70 per cent of this is recycled or re-used.

At this time of year, all sites are open from 8am until 6pm, seven-days-a-week.
