police, constabulary, leicestershire police Appeal following assault on Loughborough University campus

Officers from Loughborough are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted as he walked to his car at Loughborough University.

The assault happened sometime between 3am and 3.30am last Thursday (February 4) close to Ashleigh Drive gates and round the bend towards car parks twelve and thirteen.

The 23-year-old victim was approached by a man, who was standing with another man, who blocked his path and tried to start an argument with him.

When the victim tried to ignore him and carry on walking the man hit him in the face.

The two men then walked away from the victim, leaving him injured in the street.

The victim received injuries to his teeth and jaw as a result of the assault and was taken to the Loughborough walk-in centre by security staff at the car park.

The victim has since had to attend Derbyshire Royal Infirmary for an operation.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 20 and 25-years-old, between 5’10” to 6ft tall, of thin build with short cropped hair.

The second man who was with the suspect is described as white, 20 to 25-years-old, between 5’8” to 5’10” tall, of medium build with short dark hair.

Detective Constable Anita Rose, the officer investigating the assault, said: “The victim has had to have an operation as a result of the assault and he was in a lot of pain.

“We know that there is an event on every Wednesday night at Loughborough Students Union that finishes at 3am. We are appealing to any students who went to the union last Wednesday night to call us if they have any information about the incident or recognise the two men described.

“We believe that the suspect and the man he was with were arguing loudly before the victim was assaulted. If you were waking through the campus, perhaps on your way home from the night at the union, then you could have seen the two men. If so please call us with any details you have.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4066 Anita Rose on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4066. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
