Charnwood’s pubs, clubs, bars restaurants and cafes are invited to put themselves on the map by taking part in this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight campaign – entitled the Big Swap.
Charnwood Borough Council is offering to promote the businesses that swap a minimum of three ingredients in any food or drink dish for Fairtrade ones during the fortnight, which runs from February 22 until March 7, by putting them on the Charnwood Fairtrade Trail.
This route map will allow visitors and residents alike to follow their taste buds to local businesses doing their bit to support third world producers get a better deal for their products and lift their communities out of poverty.

Peter Lewis, Cabinet Member for culture and leisure at Charnwood Borough Council, said: “Taking part in the Big Swap is a great chance for local food retailers and outlets, especially during these hard economic times.
“It’s fantastic we can promote businesses willing not just to look after their own customers, but give real tangible help and encouragement to thousands in difficult circumstance all round the world. We’ve always thought internationally here in Charnwood and are proud to do so!”
