The family of a man killed in a road traffic collision have paid tribute to him.

46-year-old Ernest Mathers from Doncaster was killed in a road traffic collision at around 1.48am on Friday February 12 on the A1 northbound at Tickencote, just north of Stamford.

His family has issued the following statement:

"Words cannot express the feeling of the loss of an amazing and loving partner, dad, step-dad and granddad, who’s lived his life to the full and whose family meant everything to him.

"His personality touched the lives of so many people and he was taken from us when times were good.

"Thank you to Leicestershire Police for all their hard work, help and support throughout this tough time and we hope that justice will prevail in the forthcoming hearing."

The family has asked that the media please do not contact them for any further comment at this time.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with causing death by aggravated vehicle taking and appeared at Loughborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday February 15, 2010.
