Have your say in Elderly Persons' Homes consultation

People can have their say about the future of Leicestershire County Council’s Elderly Persons’ Homes (EPHs) by attending a public meeting which will be held at 6.30pm on Monday, February 22 at County Hall, Leicester Road, Glenfield.

At the the public meeting, information about proposals to transfer nine of the council’s care homes will be provided, as well as an opportunity for the public to ask questions and make comments.

The preferred option is to transfer all of the in-house EPHs as going concerns to an independent sector provider or providers.

However, Cabinet agreed to also consult on the option to consider closing one or more of the EPHs if there is not sufficient interest from quality providers, or where a successful transfer cannot be completed.

These proposals have been made because the Adult and Communities department has to achieve significant savings over the next four years, as well as continue to invest in more modern facilities to enable older people to remain living at home, eg Extra Care housing.

The nine EPHs included in the consultation are:

• Hadrian House, Thurmaston

• Huntingdon Court, Loughborough

• Harvey House, Barwell

• Kirby House, Kirby Muxloe

• Woodmarket House, Lutterworth

• Lenthall House, Market Harborough

• Curtis Western House, Wigston, plus its day centre

• The Limes, Hinckley, plus its day centre

• Tillson House, Coalville

David Sprason, Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities at Leicestershire County Council, said: “The meeting will be a good opportunity for people to come along, find out more about these proposals and have their say.

“If you are unable to attend you can still take part by filling in the consultation document online or by post.”

Another meeting will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday, February 25 at the Samworth Centre in Melton as part of a separate public consultation meeting regarding proposals relating to Catherine Dalley House EPH and the adjacent vacant Silverdale Hostel site.

The consultations will continue until April 19. Further information about the proposals, and an opportunity to have your say, can be found at: www.leics.gov.uk/careconsultation or by visiting the County Council's main website page, www.leics.gov.uk, and following the 'Have Your Say' links.

The consultation form can either be submitted on-line or by printing off and returning by post.  Alternatively a copy of both the consultation report and the consultation questions can be requested direct from the Adults and Communities department.
