Appeal following incident at Loughborough University
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a serious sexual assault in Loughborough.
The incident is alleged to have happened sometime between 1.50am and 2.30am on Thursday February 11, on Halzerigg Walk and Haselgrave Cricket field at Loughborough University.
The victim had been to Room 1 Students Union bar at Loughborough University prior to the incident and was walking home when the alleged assault happened.
Detective Sergeant Sharon Pickering, the officer investigating the incident, said: “There is a possibility that a number of people were in the area at the time that may have also left the Students Union bar.
“If you have any information about this incident we would urge you to contact us immediately.
“We are continuing to work closely with the university and Students Union throughout our investigation and would like to reassure students and residents in the area that cases like this are extremely rare.
“We’re always keen to remind students to be aware of their own personal safety, particularly at night. Always try and walk in groups where possible, but if you do have to walk alone then consider getting a personal attack alarm.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DS 4016 Sharon Pickering from North Area CID on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 4016. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers free* and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
