Young people have their say at County Hall

Photo opportunity: This year’s 'Vox Pop' event will be bigger than ever.   Over 100 young people are expected to attend the event which will be an all day event taking place on Saturday 13th March from 9.30am to 3pm at County Hall in Glenfield.  (Photographers are welcome to attend at 10 am).

The event being organised by the County Youth Council for Leicestershire (CYCLe), builds on a number of area conferences which have been held since Local Democracy Week in October,  when young people identified  issues they would like to dicuss at the event. This year there has been a new development, an evening was held at police headquarters where young people from under represented groups came together to look at issues they  are facing.  Some representatives from this event will go to Vox Pop and raise questions.

On the day, young people will have prepared key questions and issues relating to the top priorities and discuss these with elected members and officers, with a view to working together to find solutions.

Roger Wilson, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, said:

“The Vox Pop event gives young people an opportunity to talk about issues that concern them and enables them to share their views.  It also provides the chance for them to work with Councillors and see how politics is relevant to their lives.  I am pleased that so many young people have taken a keen  interest in speaking up on behalf of all young people in Leicestershire.”
