County schools perform well
Posted on 10/03/2010
Leicestershire schools are fairing well in new, tougher Ofsted inspections, the County Council revealed today.
National news reports revealed today that there was been a sharp decrease in the number of good or outstanding schools, since Ofsted introduced its new inspection regime last September. However, Leicestershire schools are performing better than the national average.
Ivan Ould, Cabinet member for the children and young people’s service, said: “I’d like to pay tribute to schools in Leicestershire, which appear to be bucking the national trend and performing well, in the face of the tougher inspections.”
Since September, Ofsted has inspected 50 schools in Leicestershire. Of these:
• 54 per cent are good or better, including 12 per cent which are outstanding – compared to eight per cent nationally
• only four per cent of schools (two schools) were classed as inadequate.
Schools rated as outstanding since September include Redmoor High School, Hinckley; Thrussington Primary; Gaddesby Primary; Limehurst High School, Loughborough; Harby Primary; and another primary school, where the report has not yet been made public.
