Leicestershire supports the National Dementia Awareness Campaign

Residents across Leicester and Leicestershire can find out more about supporting people with dementia by requesting a special information pack.

The information has been put together by the Department of Health which, supported by the Alzheimer’s Society, has launched a public campaign aimed at increasing people’s awareness about dementia.

The comprehensive information pack contains clear, simple, practical advice on how to support someone who is affected by the condition.

Support is also available for people with dementia and their families from local authorities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and local National Health Services, in partnership with residents, voluntary and independent providers.

If you would like more details about this please contact Sharon Aiken – Local Project Manager, National Dementia Strategy -  at Sharon.Aiken@leics.gov.uk

David Sprason, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities, said: “There are a variety of ways people who are affected by dementia – and their families – can be supported.

“The information pack provides some useful advice – we hope no-one feels alone when it comes to living and dealing with dementia.”

You can find out more about dementia by contacting the national information line on 0300 123 1914 or by visiting the NHS Choices website: www.nhs.uk/dementia
