Mothers go free at Bosworth Battlefield

Bosworth Battlefield is offering people the chance to treat their Mum to a great day out and better still – it’s free!

Voted best small attraction in the East Midlands, Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and Country Park is the perfect place for residents to spend quality time with their mums.

The multi award-winning exhibition includes eight interactive galleries bringing to life the deadly battle of 1485. Visitors have the chance to dress up as a medieval soldier, create their own heraldry, test their archery skills on the interactive longbow and try their hand at being a battlefield archaeologist in the newly revamped Bosworth Field Investigations (BFI) Gallery. The BFI gallery showcases the amazing finds discovered as part of the groundbreaking three-year archaeology project, including the largest collection of cannonballs in Europe and The Bosworth Boar, owned by one of Richard III’s knights.

David Sprason, Leicestershire County Council’s Cabinet Lead Member for Adults and Communities, said: “Bosworth Battlefield is the ideal place to spend time as a family and enjoy a unique fun day out that you’ll never forget. There’s a host of great fun interactive experiences on offer and with free tickets for Mums, it’s great value too.”

Tickets through the exhibition are free for Mum with the purchase of any other exhibition ticket (Adult £6, Child (under 16) £3, Concession £4, Under 3s free) and are valid all day, from 10.00am - 4.00pm.

Throughout the day, there’s also the chance to see Bosworth’s beautiful birds of prey, as Hawkwise Falconry will be offering flying demonstrations and for some, the chance to try your hand at flying a bird. Admission to ‘Hands on Hawks’ events cost £2 adults, £1 child per session, or £4 adults and £2 child for all sessions, with a free ticket for all accompanied mums.

Bosworth Gift Shop offers a unique range of Mother’s day gifts, including jewellery, books, candles, drawstring make-up bags, fine bone china and a beautiful selection of tapestry crafts.

Then, why not take a stroll through the picturesque and historic Battlefield Country Park, with miles of woodland and canal side paths to explore?

For those wanting to bring the rich history of Leicestershire’s countryside to life, why not join Bosworth’s experienced guide on a tour of the battlefield county park and trail. Learn all about the events of 1485, the death of King Richard III and the unlikely victory of Henry Tudor. Walks leave at 11.00am from the courtyard and return at 12.30pm.
