A team of four from King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville have earned themselves a trip to Edinburgh to take part in the national finals of the Consumer Challenge Quiz in June after winning a regional competition.

The team clinched their place at the final following a thrilling quiz hosted at the Space Centre, Leicester where they were joint winners in a competition with teams from Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.

Back in February King Edward School won the Leicestershire heat at Snibston Discovery Centre against four schools to get to the regional finals. The King Edward team could not be separated from Aegir Community School from Lincolnshire, even after three tie-break questions – and so were declared joint winners.

The Consumer Challenge Quiz is a special event for children with moderate learning difficulties and is organised by Leicestershire Trading Standards, along with other Trading Standards Services from across the region,  and Consumer Direct.

The aim of the quiz is to raise awareness of consumer issues for young people. The teams faced questions on a variety of subjects, including consumer rights, signs and symbols, safety and food matters.

David Bull Head of Trading Standards said ‘This is great news. Well done to the team and their supporters. I wish them the very best of luck for the national finals.’
