Park and ride scoops two awards

The Enderby park and ride scheme has scooped two awards in the Parking Review British Parking Awards 2010.

The £9.2 million venture by Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council has picked up the best new car park and best marketing awards.

Enderby's car park has innovative features, such as a sustainable drainage system underneath the parking bays and a low-energy terminal building which uses ‘geo-thermal ground source heat technology’ - reducing energy consumption by up to 15 per cent.

The site beat off stiff competition from all over the country, such as the Forestry Commission’s Grizedale Project in Cumbria and Birmingham International Rail Station

Marketing of the facility has included advertising campaigns and promotional ties with city businesses.

Enderby buses are characterised by the ‘quicksilver’ brand in a ‘hot pink’ colour scheme, which appears on the shuttle buses, the website and throughout the marketing literature.

Lesley Pendleton, the County Council's Cabinet member for Environment and Transport, said: “Enderby sets a new standard of environmental best practice for the design and construction of park and ride schemes in this area."

Leicester City Council Cabinet member for regeneration and transport, Councillor Patrick Kitterick, said: “Park and ride schemes are the way forward for this area. They significantly reduce the traffic volume into the city centre yet continue to encourage footfall, contributing to the wider city centre regeneration plans."
