Good causes have received a boost thanks to donations of office furniture from Charnwood Borough Council.

Items such as desks, filing cabinets and chairs are being distributed to good causes through Giving World Online, a scheme run by Leicester based charity Konnect9.

Approximately 40 items have been donated so far, which will be passed on to people who need them. Any surplus goods are being sent to Haiti.

Hilary Fryer, Charnwood Borough Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "We are pleased that by donating this furniture to Giving World Online we are helping good causes, as well as preventing it from being sent to landfill sites.

"I would like to commend the work of the charity and am delighted we have been able to support it in this way."

Sujata Bhalla, founding Director of Giving World Online said, “The furniture donations from Charnwood went out to a range of charities and will benefit many individuals through their work.”

Organisations that have benefited from the furniture, which was made available as a result of office moves, include LeicestHER Day Trust, the Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation, The Cooke e-Learning Foundation in Leicester and the Hollybank Trust in West Yorkshire.

Giving World Online was set up in 2008 by sisters Rama and Sujata Bhalla.
