If you go down to the park on Saturday May 17th you’re in for a lovely surprise!

Queen’s Park, Loughborough, that is and Charnwood Arts would like to wish you a warm welcome to Picnic in the Park 2008.

For the 28th year they will be providing an exciting day of performance, arts, crafts, fun and games right at the heart of our community.

Queen’s Park is a beautiful place to while away a late-Spring afternoon and they will be making it even more fun than usual!

This year’s activities will include Have-a-Go Circus, Movement Sessions for under-5s and parents, Tug-o-War, a Renga platform so people can write together, Tree Dressings and a Giant Knitted Picnic!

Performances will be taking place all afternoon, including Loughborough’s favourite Ska band Ska-Amanga, Zimbabwean group Ngoma, Storytelling, fabulous Dancers and some great bands from Loughborough College.

Loughborough based ArtZone will also be running workshops and creating a living sculpture.

The park itself will form the basis of their free workshop, which will be using odd socks to dress the trees into a living sculpture.

The workshop is open to everyone and there is no need to book so please bring along all your odd socks and give them a new lease of life!

ArtZone workshops are run every Saturday morning at Charnwood Museum during school terms. Children between the ages of 8 and 14 are invited to come along and work with local artists on a wide variety of projects.

Create Too will also be presenting papermaker Barry Hitchcock from Albert Street Artists during “Picnic”. Barry will be running a free papermaking demonstration during the day in the Education Room at Charnwood Museum.

Following on from this, why not join Barry in his papermaking course for adults, running on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th May, between 12.45pm and 2.45pm.

Take along a picnic blanket (perhaps an umbrella too!) and prepare to be entertained.

Charnwood Arts is looking forward to sharing a wonderful day with you!
