£5k for cycle speedway

Leicester City Council has pledged £5000 towards the refurbishment of the city’s Monarchs Cycle Speedway Club.

The club, which recently hosted the European Championships needs a total of £50,000 to improve facilities.

Cllr Andy Connelly, Cabinet lead for culture said: “I am delighted that we are able to help the club with this investment in the future. The club has really taken off in recent years and attracts lots of interest from

the city’s Polish community.

“With crowds of around 600 at the recent European Championships, the Monarchs Cycle Speedway is doing fantastically well, and we want to make sure this popularity continues. People of all ages can enjoy this sport and we want to encourage the growth to continue”.

Leicester Monarchs Cycle Speedway Club has been running for over 50 years. Members aged from six to 60 meet for training three times a week with league matches held at week
