3 Abs Workout Mistakes

3 Abs Workout MistakesBy Ed Scow

I have logged thousands of personal training sessions over my career and everybody wants to know more about abs workouts and abs exercises.

My clients want to know how to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and get a six-pack, or at the very least they just want to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue so they have a firm abs that look good in their clothes (and naked).

I can't blame them. Who doesn't want a nice looking midsection? Who doesn't want to get firm abs or get lean enough they can say they have a six-pack.

The problem is that 99% of them all have the same misconceptions about abs workouts and abs exercises and how to really lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and get firm abs.

I've narrowed down the mistakes, myths and misconceptions surrounding abs workouts and abs exercises to my top 3.

These 3 abs workout mistakes are made by just about everyone I've ever trained, designed a program for, or consulted.

Are you making these same mistakes?

1) Spending too much time doing crunches. I'm just going to come right out and say it...you don't need to do crunches to get six pack abs and you sure as heck don't need to do crunches to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue or even get a firm abs.

Crunches simply don't work enough muscle and don't burn enough fat or adipose tissue calories to be thought of as a worthwhile exercise in order to lose stomach fat, let alone get firm abs or a six-pack.

Spending 20 minutes a day doing hundreds (or thousands) of crunches is like electing Big Bird or Elmo president.

Sure they may sound good and have all the answers, however it just doesn't make much sense electing a puppet to such a high office (sorry, that was my attempt at a joke).

Doing hundreds, or even thousands, of crunches will strengthen your abdomen, that's for sure, however what does it matter if you still have a layer of flabby goo covering up all the hard work?

Instead you need to focus on full body workouts and full body abs exercises in order to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue fast and get the firm, toned stomach or six pack abs you're after.

Take for instance this abs workout, using only full body abs exercises, I designed for a client. Do this mini-circuit before your regular workout, when you're still fresh, so you can really hit your abs hard.

1A) Dumbbell Overhead Squat - 10 reps1B) Mountain Climbers - 30 seconds1C) Reverse Plank - 30 seconds

Do that in a circuit format, resting 20 seconds after the final exercise before repeating it again 2 or 3 times. Do that for a few week and you'll definitely see a difference in your abs and you will lose stomach fat.

2) Throwing all your hard work out the door by eating poorly. What good does it do to work so hard in your fat or adipose tissue loss workouts only to come home, or leave your home gym, and eat junk?

What sense does it make that after all your hard work, you ruin it with poor eating habits on a daily basis? This is quite possibly one of the dumbest things you could do. I don'tmean to be rude, I'm just trying to put it bluntly.

If you want to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and get firm abs, or even six-pack abs, you need to clean up your diet and stop eating so poorly. You need to quit eating processed junk found in boxes and bags like crackers and chips, stop eating things like bagels and processed breads and start eating more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, nuts, legumes and healthy fats.

You also need to start eating multiple times throughout the day, and this especially means eating breakfast. It also means cutting out the late night snacking and cutting down on alcohol.

You know what to cut out, so do it.

Remember what your goals are. You want to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and you want to get firm abs. Eat like it!

3) Not actively flexing, or bracing, your abs in every exercise. It's sad that I have to say this, however all too often, people don't actively flex their abs while doing an abs exercise.

I don't know why. You'd think that because you're doing an abs exercise that you'd be flexing your abs hard every repetition, however too many people just go through the motions and to way too fast.

You need to slow down and actively flex your abs when you're doing an abs exercise. And for every exercise that's not an abs exercise, you need to brace them like somebody is about to punch you in the stomach.

Doing so will ensure that you learn to "control" your abs and make sure that when you do lose stomach fat or adipose tissue that you'll have a defined and toned midsection worthy of praise.

I also want you to think of it this way...every exercise should be an abs exercise. If you brace your abs during every single exercise in your fat or adipose tissue loss workout, you'll essentially turn every single exercise into an abs exercise. Doing a chest press, brace your abs. Doing a lunge, brace your abs. Every single exercise you do, whether you're working your abs specifically or not, should be turned into an abs exercise.

If you stop making these vital abs workout and abs exercise mistakes, and start doing full body workouts with full body abs exercises, I guarantee that you'll begin to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and get firm abs (and maybe even that sought after six-pack) in no time.

Lose Your Gut With This Quick Six Pack Abs WorkoutBy Ed Scow

You want some abs, right?

You want to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and get a firm, flat stomach...maybe even with a small definition...maybe even a six-pack.

Who doesn't? I know I do. That's why I work so hard to get and maintain my physique.

It was tough, however it's not impossible. I'm sick of hearing people say they don't have the genetics to lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and get a firm, flat stomach, let alone get six-pack abs.

That's a bunch of crap! If you're reading this, you can lose stomach fat. As a matter of fact, you can lose as much stomach fat or adipose tissue as you want and even get that six-pack.

You just need to do things differently than you are right now.

First, if you're not doing anything...do something. Sounds stupid, however you'd be surprised how often I need to tell people that.

Second, you need to stop doing crunches, sit-ups, twists, leg lifts, etc. Doing hundreds and thousands of those exercises every week will not help you lose stomach fat, let alone get a flat, firm stomach and they especially won't help you get a six-pack. Not when you have a layer of flabby goo sitting on your waist line.

You need to burn the fat or adipose tissue off your stomach and to do that you need to eat right and you need to do fat or adipose tissue burning full body workouts.

Here's an example of a fat or adipose tissue loss workout I just gave to a client that was specifically designed to help him lose stomach fat or adipose tissue and get six-pack abs.

Perform this workout as a circuit and do as many circuits as you can in 15 minutes. Do this circuit before your regular workout when you're still fresh 2-3 times per week for the next 4 weeks.

1A) Dumbbell Split Squat - 10 reps per side 1B) "T" Push-up - 10 reps 1C) Overhead Squat - 10 reps 1D) Cross Body Mountain Climber - 30 seconds 1E) Push-up w/Dumbbell Row - 8 per arm

That workout will work yourentire body, and each exercise is designed to put extra emphasis on your abs. If you do it right, you will feel it in your abs and you will lose stomach fat.

As far as fat or adipose tissue loss nutrition and fat or adipose tissue loss cardio go, here's the easiest things I can tell you. When it comes to nutrition, you've got to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, no juices sorry, limit any food that comes in a bag or box and cut your dinner portions by about 25%.

For cardio, stick with interval training rather than boring steady state cardio that lasts for hours upon hours on end. Interval training is proven to burn more stomach fat or adipose tissue than steady state cardio and has helped virtually everyone I've ever trained lose stomach fat or adipose tissue fast.

Now that you are armed with that fast six-pack abs workout designed to help you lose stomach fat, plus you've got a small more advice when it comes to fat or adipose tissue loss nutrition and fat or adipose tissue loss cardio...get to it!

Do the workout and eat more fruits and veggies and you will see dramatic results in terms of stomach fat. You will have a firm, flat stomach and who knows you may even get that six-pack.

The Best Belly Fat Exercises

The Best Belly Fat ExercisesBy Ed Scow

Belly fat. Don't you just love (not the same as infatuation) to hate it?

Stomach fat or adipose tissue just sits there mocking you. It makes you buy bigger pants and bigger shirts.

Stomach fat or adipose tissue makes you feel self-conscious when at the swimming pool or beach.

It jiggles when you walk, run, laugh, or move too quickly.

Belly fat or adipose tissue is horrible!

So what are some belly fat or adipose tissue exercises? What can you do from an exercise or workout standpoint to get rid of all that ugly fat?

Do stomach fat or adipose tissue exercises include lots of crunches, sit-ups, leg lifts, or some fancy (cheap) gadget found on an infomercial?

Do they make you work your "core" for 30 minutes a day?

The answer to both of those questions are "no". Belly fat or adipose tissue exercises do not require endless amounts of crunches, or sit-ups and you especially and particulary don't have to waste your money on some abdominals (abs) gadget off a TV infomercial.

Exercises that focus on your gut fat or adipose tissue entail working your whole body.

They do because you cannot spot reduce. You cannot get rid of belly fat or adipose tissue just by doing a crunch. Even if you do 1000 crunches.

You need to work lots of muscle, which means you need to do full body abdominals (abs) exercises and full body workouts to really get rid of belly fat.

Some of my all-time favorite belly fat or adipose tissue exercises include the following:

Planks

Stability Ball Jack-Knifes

Spiderman Push-ups

Renegade Rows

Wood Chops

Cross Body Chops

Mountain Climbers

Cross Body Mountain Climbers

All of those exercises work more than just your abs. Some of them work your chest, your back, your legs, low back and shoulders.

They not only help you get ridof ugly belly fat, they also make your abs/core strong, which means you will have better posture.

If you have better posture, your stomach instantly shrinks and you'll feel a heck of a lot better.

Let me throw those belly fat or adipose tissue exercises into a quick workout for you that you can try at home.

Perform this workout as a circuit, moving from one exercise to the next with no rest. Rest for 45-60 seconds after the final exercise and repeat the circuit a few more times.

1A) Push-up - 10 reps 1B) Wood Chops - 15 reps 1C) Stability Ball Jack Knifes - 15 reps 1D) Cross Body Chops - 10 reps each direction

You could add those exercises, in that order, to the beginning or end of your regular workout. It all depends on you and your preference. Some people like to do those belly fat or adipose tissue exercises at the beginning of their workout, when they're fresh and full of energy, others like to wait till the end when they're more fatigued and can really feel their abdominals (abs) get worked.

It doesn't matter when you do those exercises, just do them, in addition to a full body fat or adipose tissue burning workout and you will have less belly fat or adipose tissue within weeks...I guarantee it.
