A Dog For the Family
A Dog For the FamilyBy Robert Cunningham
Before deciding to bring a puppy or adult dog into your home do a small homework and learn all you can about what it means to have a dog. Do you want a "purebred" bought through a breeder? If so, be sure to check out the breeder and their facility. The responsible breeder will give you all the information and details on the puppy and be happy to answer questions you have. If possible you should be able to see the parents of the puppy so you can see what the puppy will look like as an adult. Many breeders give their puppies tests for dominance and tolerance for pain. The breeder may suggest which puppy is right for you and your family.
Selecting the right breed of dog for your family should be considered. Most dogs need exercising however some breeds demand more than others. Walking is a good exercise for any dog and should be done on a daily basis. You can read books on the different breed types which will give you a good idea of what it would be like to own a particular breed and what kind of care it requires. Long haired breeds will need more grooming to keep their coats in good condition. Many breeds need special trimming of their coat which means a trip to the dog groomer. Dogs should be given baths including flea and tick treatment when needed to keep them in good condition. Nails need regular trimming and many types of trimmers are available to the owner. If you find it too tricky to trim the nails yourself that is another job a professional or expert groomer can handle. Having a groomer care for your pets by doing the bathing, brushing out the coat, trimming and other things can be very costly. So all these things should be considered before making a choice on the breedof dog you want.(1)
If you decide you want to select an all around good "mutt" you can check out your local dog pounds, animal shelters, or special rescue groups. They are a good places to find that special dog or puppy. Most dog pounds, shelters and rescue groups pretest their dogs for pain tolerance, temperament, and if they are friendly to other dogs and cats. Sometimes you can select a purebred dog at shelters or through rescue groups that deal only with specific breeds. The main consideration is finding the dog that fits in with your family and lifestyle.
Deciding whether to get a female or male is another decision you will have to make. Whichever one you choose be sure to have the dog spayed or neutered to help keep down the dog population.
The following is a list of supplies you will need for the new puppy or dog.

,Selecting a Boxer Dog Breeder
Selecting a Boxer Dog BreederBy Ty Magnum
When you decide to buy a purebred Boxer there are some things that you should look for in the breeder.
You need to do your homework and choose a reputable boxer breeder. Some of the things that are important are the conditions that the puppies are living in. Does the breeder give the dogs affection, good shelter, nutritious dog food and clean water?
The puppies should be able to get exercise, socialization, vet care, immunizations, and grooming.
Check out the breeder extensively, do they belong to a national breeder association? Does the breeder abide by their breed clubs code of ethics? These are some important points that you as the buyer should know.
If the breeder is reputable they will want to know about you also. Will the puppy that they are selling be going to a good home? They will want to know about your family, neighborhood, your schedule, and the time that you will have available to care for your new pet.
A reputable boxer breeder will not sell to anyone that they see as unfit. A responsible Boxer breeder will want to educate you on the breed that you are buying. They will encourage you to have your Boxer spade or neutered.
A good breeder will offer supportto the owner for the life of the pet and will disclose information and details about the "puppy lemon law". They will also be willing to take the puppy back if the situation does not work out for you.
These are just a few of the things that you should look for in a reputable boxer breeder.
It is very important that you buy your next boxer from a responsible breeder that takes care of their dogs. You never want to buy from a puppy mill that mistreats their dogs.
And just a side note, many of the pure bred dogs that you see in a pet store come from puppy mills. Of course they would never tell the potential buyer this information, however most reputable dog breeders will not sell to a pet shop. So look out for poor breeders while you are searching for your perfect Boxer.

Dogs - Finding a Breeder & Choosing a BreederBy Peter Madrid
When it comes to getting a dog or canine you have many possible options. The one you choose however will decide if your dog will become a great and valuable part of your family or just another mutt at the dog shelter. Ask any experienced dog owner and they will tell you that your greatest bet is to get your dog from a reputable breeder. But where do you begin is the hard question.
Finding a breeder
Assuming you have a particular breed in mind, it's time for you to find some dog breeders that are in your area.
Where to find dog breeders
- Dog Magazines - magazines such as Dog Fancy will list breeders of almost all purebred dogs
- Internet - do a search on Google and include your city in the search
- Vet clinics / Dog Grooming Parlors - they are usually connected with breeders and can refer you
- Phone books, Newspapers, Breed directories are also good sources
Not all breeders are reputable
Once you have narrowed down your choices, you can begin the visitation process. But before you do, there are a few things you have to know first. Not all dog breeders out there are quality breeders. Some breeders have realised that they can make a quick buck by breeding as many puppies as they can with small to no regardto the potential problems. Often, these bad breeders have more than one breed and operate large scale puppy mills where dogs are placed in enclosures and their sole purpose is to breed.
On the other hand, many quality breeders care more about the health and temperament of their dogs than they do about the money. They strive to produce pups that adhere to breed standards and will try to minimize many of the health problems that may be prevalent in that breed.
Quality breeders are the ones you should be looking at. They will provide you with a puppy that has the greatest odds of growing up to be a healthy and well round adult dog.
Peter Madrid invites you to visit Puppy-Portal.com and find out how you can choose good breeders of dogs. You can also learn about what questions to ask dog breeders, choosing a puppy from a litter, what food to avoid feeding your puppy dog and much more.
