Ab Workouts at Home For Comfort and EconomyBy Tony Newton

It is a common misconception that people have when looking at someone who has a bodybuilders body. They think that the person must go to the gym every day and that it must be costing them a fortune in membership fees. Well, obviously this isn't always the case at all. There are dozens of exercises you can do at home without even having to purchase any exercise equipment. Abs workouts at home for instance, can be done very easily and all you need is a small amount of room to do them.

It doesn't take long to do ab exercises however it is important that you don't neglect them. This is because the abs can be the most stubborn of all areas to train, so they need constant training. Even if you only have 10-20 minutes a day, that is enough to keep them trained as part of your programme.

Some of the most common ab exercises that are done in the home are sit-ups and leg raises. You can also try hanging leg raises however you need something to hang onto or to lift yourself up on. Putting two chairs back to back is one way of being able to do hanging leg raises. Just hold yourself up with your arms, whilst grabbing the backs of the chairs, so you are literally hanging. Then raise and lower your legs whilst crunching your abs. Obviously you'll need strong chairs and only attempt it if you are 100% sure of what you are doing. But it is possible and would save you having to buy a Captains Chair to do the same exercise.

The basic crunch will almost certainly be the most common ab exercise that is done in the home. It just involves lying flat on your back and performing a basic sit-up. You can adapt the exercise to include twists, so that you can work your obliques as well as the lower abs.

Abs workouts at home should be something you take seriously. The more times you can incorporate them into the week, the sooner you will start seeing the results.

A Total Ab Workout

A Total Ab WorkoutBy Tony Newton

If you are looking for a total abdominal (ab) workout, then you probably already realise that just doing sit ups is not enough. You really need to incorporate lots of exercises specifically targeting the different sections of the abdominal muscles. This gives you the all over packed muscles and the definition should shine through too.

So What Abs Exercises Should Be Used?

The first thing you need to realise is that even though you want to improve your six pack, you shouldn't just do exercises that target that area. All over body workouts help burn more calories and this means that you will have less fat or adipose tissue around your stomach area. So it helps for the abdominals (abs) to show, even without concentrating solely on them. But obviously you will need to train them and these are just some of the exercises you should be doing:

Basic Crunches

You have probably done these already and are basically your standard sit up. Find a flat area to lie on and lie down with your back flat on the floor. Lift up your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor too. Then place your hands behind your head and interlock your fingers if you wish. Then lift your head and shoulders off the floor and crunch your abdominals (abs) so that you are trying tosit up. Try not too use your hands to pull yourself up, it should be the abdominals (abs) doing all the work. Hold the position for a second, them release and lay flat again. Ideally you should do 3 sets of 20-30 crunches however may be less if you are just beginning.

Knee Raises (Hanging Leg Raises)

This is a great exercise for the lower abs. To perform it you will need a chin up bar or something safe to hang from. The exercise is easy, just hang from the bar, making sure you don't swing and lift your knees up so that they move to a horizontal position. Hold that position for a few seconds then release. Try to do 3 sets of 15 if you can.

A total abdominal (ab) workout will use these exercises plus some other basic ones however they will give you an abdominal (ab) workout that really cannot be beaten.
