Benefits of Increasing Physical ActivityBy Mary Duval

Activity breeds activity and inactivity breeds inactivity. Have you ever spent a day sitting and just watching TV. How did you feel at the end of it? Were you tired and unmotivated? This is the vicious cycle of inactivity. The more time you stay stationary, the less you are inclined to get up and move around.

However, once you start moving and make it a regular habit, you will find that you will want to spend less time sitting and watching the tube. You will find that your motivation will increase and you will want to be out doing more.

You may not believe this, however your body likes to move (no, really!). So, by increasing your physical activity level, you are helping your body feel good and work better.

Physical activity can benefit you in many ways. It helps your heart and lungs function better. It is a superb way to help prevent heart disease and strokes. It can lower your blood pressure and cholesterol. It can help you lose weight, build muscle, and relieve stress.

In short, physical activity is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself and your body.

Physical improvements are notthe only benefits of increasing your activity level. Being active can also improve your mood. When you move, your body releases endorphins, which make you feel good. When you are inactive, you are more susceptible to depression. So put yourself in a better mood by getting up and moving!

To get these benefits, though, you have to do it, do it regularly, and do it frequently. Once a week won't cut it. The good news is, once you get in the habit of regular physical activity, your body will want more of it. You will find that you have more and greater energy and you will probably be surprised at all the things you get done in a day!

So what are you waiting for? Your journey starts with the first step. Take it today!

Exercise at the OfficeBy Mary Duval

If you work in an office, you know how easy it is to just sit at your desk all day long, rarely getting up. You have a lot to do. You don't have time to leave your desk. This is the curse of a sedentary job. However, if you sit for eight hours a day, your body doesn't get the movement it needs. Have you noticed how tired you feel at the end of the day when you don't move around a lot? It's difficult to move even just a little. You feel tired and all you want to do is sit and watch TV when you get home. This is the curse of being sedentary. Inactivity breeds inactivity.

So, how do you keep moving while you have a sedentary job? There are several ways you can get in some extra activity during your day at the office.

-Every hour or two, get up and walk around your building for a few minutes. You can do this inside or outside. Just walk around and get the blood flowing again. This is not only good for you physically, however it will also help you mentally as you take a break from the work that you are doing. -If you have stairs in your office building, use them! Coming into work and leaving for the day are good times to take the stairs, however also use them during the day. During a five minute break, walk up and down the stairs. -Inyour office or cubicle you can stand up and stretch and move around. You can also keep a few hand weights in your office and use them for a few minutes. -During lunch, go for a 20 minute walk. -When you get into work, don't look for a spot close to the door. Park a distance away from the door and get the extra walking time in.

Your job may be sedentary and does not give you reasons to get up and move around a lot, however that shouldn't stop you from doing what you know your body needs. If you did one of the items listed above you would get an extra 30 - 45 minutes of physical activity in each day. You will probably be more focused on the job at hand and you won't feel as totally wasted at the end of the day. Try it today!
