When it comes to working the abdominal, the more chic / stylish / trendy / hip / cool exercises are the sit ups and crunches. Having a flat stomach involves more than just the front side and six-packs. The areas on the stomach's side are equally important when trying to get that sexy toned stomach. The fats gathered in those side areas are commonly know as "love handles".

Try out this exercise for love handles (and the other variations of them).

Upper Leg Raise

Lay on a bench with your bottom at the end of the bench. Keep your back straight and in contact with the bench. Your hands can grip the sides of the bench (or handles on the bench if available) for support.

Next extend your legs and raise them as high as possible at an angle towards your left. You are working your right side when your legs are raised to the left. Bring your legs down parallel to the ground, and raise them again up and toward your right. Keep the legs extended at all times. Feel your love handles andside muscles working.

Variations

Upper Leg Raise 2

You can try to do the same exercise as the upper leg raise, however sitting up with your back up 90 degrees from the bench.

Upper Leg Raise Bent Knee

Here you do the above two exercises precisely the same way, except bend at your knees as your legs are raised. This exercise for love handles can also be done when you hang from a chin up bar in a gym or on a vertical bench.

There are numerous exercises designed to work out the abdominals (abs) and stomach area muscles, and burn the fat or adipose tissue around that area. Here are some effective and easy to do exercises for love handles reduction and toning the muscles around that area.

Hanging Leg Raises

Hang yourself in mid-air on a chin-up bar or whatever method you feel comfortable with. Relax, and use your abdominals (abs) muscles to raise your legs as high as possible. Be sure to keep your legs straight at all times during this exercise.

Twisting Torso Hanging Leg Raises

This is a variation of the hanging leg raise exercise. While raising your legs when doing the hanging leg raise, twist your torso on your way up, and untwist on your way down. And then repeat this procedure while twisting to the other side. This exercise works your obliques very well. Be extra careful when twisting; keep in mind to twist slowly, and do not over-extend yourself at the twist. The twisting is a very injury-prone stepas you can pull a muscle if you are not careful.

Inclined Bench Leg Raise

This is very similar to regular bench leg raises, except you incline the board. This adds difficulty to the bench leg raise by adding resistance.

Whenever you do these exercises for love handles, remember to raise your legs as high as possible to maximize the benefit. You do not want to get only 50% of the possible benefits when you put 100% of your time and motivation to start the exercises. Remember to exhale while you are exerting.
