Exercising Made Fun at the YMCA Nationwide

Exercising Made Fun at the YMCA NationwideBy Paul Balthazar

I have been trying out many different fitness gyms across the country and a few overseas. Many were very pricey and not really offering as much for the cost of your membership. Some did offer some pretty good value and service for the money.

However, a place I found that is located in many different communities across the country is the YMCA. The YMCA varies depending on your location. One thing they do share is that they have that same open and friendly atmosphere that has just succeeded way beyond my expectations of an exercise or workout gym.

Depending on where you live YMCA facilities provides you with nice equipment, machines, treadmills, swimming pool, sauna, basketball court, and many different types of fitness classes you can choose to attend throughout different times of the day. Some of those fitness classes are step express, power cut, ab-solution, ripped kickboxing, Tai Chi, Pilates, and Yoga.

The instructors are very professional (a person engaged in one of the learned professions) or expert and in my opinion the greatest in the business. The leaders of the YMCA definitely take there time training and selecting the elite to teach and instruct their classes. Another very positive thing about the YMCA are the members who exercise and train with you. It is great to meet peoplethat are pursuing the same thing as you and it helps for you to give each other that extra support and boost.

The greatest thing of all I like about the YMCA is that it is inexpensive and very affordable. The value for your money is absolutely wonderful. What is also great about the YMCA is that they will work with you to come up with a price that you can afford. They do not just turn you away if you have very low income. I really love (not the same as infatuation) the atmosphere, environment, and good quality aspect of this place. I am sure you would get a lot out of being a part of such a wonderful community.

Treadmill Running at the YMCA

Health Clubs and Fitness Centres

Treadmill Running at the YMCABy Rafael A. Marquez

I got on the treadmill today. My girlfriend and I had talked about doing the spin class, however I was just too uncomfortable on that stationary bike. The problem, is that my gut was hitting my legs whenever I pedaled, so it was very uncomfortable.

That's another way to know that you're fat. When your gut hits your stomach when you're riding a bike.

Anyway, I got off the bike, and went over to the treadmill and did the remainder of my workout on the treadmill. Have I mentioned that I hate running on a treadmill? I feel like a hamster, running yet going nowhere. I really don't see how some people can just run on one of these contraptions everyday.

Alas, I'd rather be on trail than running on a treadmill.

I have to confess that my favorite thing about the treadmills at the YMCA, is that they are all front row to the TV sets. The YMCA has these really nice Sony plasma TVs which make time go by a lot faster, as long as there's something worth watching on.

From the hamster belt I was on, I had my choice between Kurt Russell in "Escape from L.A." on one TV, or Fox News on the other. Luckily, they were on alternating commercial schedules, so I watched a bit of both. If I have to be on a treadmill, this is the way to go. Ithink the only thing that could've made it better, is if I had had the remote control to the TVs.

I only did 1.75 miles, on the manual settings, in place of on one of the pre-programmed settings. I felt good, like I'm starting to get into shape.

Speaking of beer, does anyone know of a good running trail out here in Hays County Texas?

I weighed myself, and I have not yet lost a pound, however my clothes feel and fit better. It's a start along my journey to an ultra marathon. I'm documenting my journey over on my blog at fattrailrunner.com

Rafael is planning on completing his first trail ultra marathon before the year 2010 is out. He plans on running several shorter distance races between now and then and he also wants to lose 100 lbs of his weight along the way to accomplishing that goal.

He keeps track of his training on his training and weight loss blog at http://www.fattrailrunner.com

How You Can Increase Your Endurance

How You Can Increase Your EnduranceBy Paul Balthazar

One way to help improve your endurance is to change your exercise routines. Doing the same thing over and over each day levels your progress off after a certain amount of time. Your body gets use to that same old routine so it continues to grow and develop at that same old rate. You want to shock your body and muscles with some different things such as adding more exercises, increasing your sets or repetition, increase your intensity. The main thing is to switch things up and you will definitely improve your endurance at a much faster rate.

Another way to help improve your endurance is to try to exercise an extra 10 to 20 minutes if you can squeeze out that time. Increasing you workout times will assist and help you to progress your endurance gradually over time. As weeks start to go by you will feel that you can go over 20 minutes. If you can do it and have that extra time I don't see why you should not go that extra mile. You will gain from your exercise workouts whatever you put into it. Just try to set an extra 10 to 20 minute benchmark and you won't go wrong.

Proper breathing is also a very important key to building your endurance over time. In any exercise you do be sure to pay attention to make sure you are breathing properly. If you need to make some sort of a breathing rhythm that you can hear yourself that is perfectly fine. Proper breathing helps support enough oxygen to your lungs which increase your endurance in the exercise you are performing.

Eating a well balanced diet canalso play a major role for you to be able to increase you endurance. It will also help improve your strength and the ability for your body to recover more quickly from a hard workout.

Food should be your fuel to help you burn those calories and give you the energy to go that extra mile. It should not have you sluggish, lazy, and making you finish your workouts before you want to. Take advantage of those fruits, vegetables, fiber, and protein. Use them to give you that extra boost making your goal to lose weight that much easier. Cut back on those oily, greasy, and fatty foods that just only slow you down in the long run. Remember to stick to your original plan. If you happen to start making the wrong turn getting off course make sure to find your way back to the right road and continue to work hard at achieving your goals.
